What Happens to My AI Agent When I Change a Password?
You changed a password and your AI agent stopped reading your mail or calendar. What I said on October 7, 2026, and where to go next.
It loses access to that system. After you change a password in a system you've connected, you have to come back and reauthorize the permission, and it won't update on its own. I showed the connector's three-dot menu on October 7, 2026, and Gumloop's documentation describes a Reauth choice for a sign-in that stopped working.
Your AI agent was reading your inbox on Monday. On Tuesday you changed your email password, and now it can't see a thing. That's the situation I described on the recording.
What did I say happens?
I noted it while I was showing how to remove access, so it sits in the middle of the connectors part of the build (45:28). The cause is the password:
From the recording, 45:48. So whenever you change your password in a system connected to Gumloop, you have to come back to Gumloop and reauthorize permissions.
I added that it won't automatically update once the passwords are changed (45:57). The connection doesn't follow you to the new password. You have to tell it.
Where do I go?
Steps, as shown October 7, 2026:
- 01
Open your AI agent and go to its connectors section.
- 02
Find the connector for the system whose password you changed. In my demo it was Gmail (44:48).
- 03
On the far right, next to the circle with a check mark, open the three dots (44:55).
The menu works like this:
From the recording, 45:04. If I click on the three dots, it allows me to switch an account, but it also gives me access to easily remove access.
I removed my Gmail access to show you, and then added it back:
From the recording, 45:22. I'm going to re-add it for the purpose of demo, but I wanted to demonstrate how you remove access.
I described reauthorizing and I didn't open that screen on the recording, so the part about what to click after the three dots comes from the documentation below.
What does the documentation say to do?
The builder in my session was Gumloop. On my relationship to Gumloop, I said this:
From the recording, 33:22. I don't work for Gumloop. I found this tool over the summer through Lenny's podcast, and I started using it and have since made myself an ambassador for them. I've created a relationship with Gumloop. I am not an employee.
More on that is in Do you work for Gumloop? (the answer from the session).
Checked on 2026-11-05 against Gumloop's Revoke and reconnect a connector page. It tells you to use it when the AI agent reports a disconnected or read-only connector, or one still using an old account after you signed in again. An orange Reauth needed badge on an account means its sign-in no longer works, and the page says to choose Reauth from the account's menu instead of revoking. A Refresh failed notice is temporary, and Gumloop retries on its own. If you do revoke, you click Connect, sign in with the account you want, and then re-attach it on the AI agent, because adding it on the Connectors page isn't enough. The page doesn't mention passwords, so I'm taking my cause from the recording and its fix from the page.
Which systems should I revisit?
When you change a password, check every AI agent that touches that system. These are the systems I named in the session:
- Calendar and email, the first two systems I named when I explained connectors (25:59).
- Google Drive, Sheets, Gmail and a calendar, the ones I said I'd already given an AI agent access to before (31:04).
- Salesforce and Slack, which I named as systems you can give access to (25:59). In the build I paused on connecting Slack (38:05).
Your own list may be shorter. Write down which AI agents use each system, so you know where to go next time.
What goes wrong
The AI agent can no longer reach the system. As I put it, once you change the password, it will no longer be able to access that system (45:34).
It doesn't fix itself. It won't automatically update once the passwords are changed (45:57), so the AI agent stays cut off until you reauthorize.
Where this comes from
This article grows from the session I taught live with Women Applying AI on October 7, 2026. The quoted passages are my own words, taken verbatim from the recording. The steps, tables and checklists around them were drafted by my team's AI agents from those words and my published pages, and checked against the recording before publishing. Screens change, and platform facts that have a public source carry the dated line above.

Frequently asked questions
Does my AI agent reconnect itself after a password change?
No. I told the group it won't automatically update once the passwords are changed (45:57).
How will I know the connection stopped?
Gumloop's documentation says to use its fix when the AI agent reports a disconnected or read-only connector, and it describes an orange Reauth needed badge on an account whose sign-in no longer works.
Should I revoke the connector or reauthorize it?
The documentation says to choose Reauth instead of revoking when an account shows the Reauth needed badge. The revoke steps are the ones where you click Connect and sign in with the account you want.
Can I remove access on purpose?
Yes. The three dots beside a connected account let you switch an account or remove access, and I showed it on Gmail (45:04).
