Can an AI Agent Read LinkedIn Profiles?

What I said an AI agent can read on LinkedIn, what Apify's documentation lists for Gumloop today, and the question my answer left open.

Quick answer

Public pages, through a tool built for AI agents. I named Apify for that, and I said it won't read a private page. Apify's own page for its Gumloop integration doesn't list LinkedIn today (Checked on 2026-11-05), so look in your account before you build around it. I didn't say anything about LinkedIn's terms on the recording, so read them before you point an AI agent at the site.

You're about to meet someone, or interview with them, and you'd like your AI agent to look at their LinkedIn page first. The answer I gave in the session is narrower than a yes, and it leaves one question open.

What did I say it can read?

I called LinkedIn one of my favorite tools (28:21). At 28:37 I asked the group how we find publicly available information when our AI agent is helping us prep and looking at a company's LinkedIn page, or the public page of the person we're meeting.

My answer was Apify. I found it to be one of the best tools for prepping with LinkedIn, because they've written a protocol for AI agents to look at public pages (29:01).

The limit came in the same breath:

From the recording, 29:18. If it's a private page, it will not read it

Why does it need a tool at all?

I said LinkedIn doesn't share the MCP and API (28:25). I was getting a little technical, and I said it's simply how one system talks to another. A tool built for AI agents fills that gap for public pages. What Is an AI Agent-Native Tool? and What Is MCP, in Nontechnical Words? define the terms.

What the AI agent does with a public page is part of prep. I use these connectors as my AI agent's superpower tools to help me get ready (30:28). How Do I Prep for a Meeting With an AI Agent? shows that part.

What does the documentation list today?

The builder in my session was Gumloop. On my relationship to Gumloop, I said this:

From the recording, 33:22. I don't work for Gumloop. I found this tool over the summer through Lenny's podcast, and I started using it and have since made myself an ambassador for them. I've created a relationship with Gumloop. I am not an employee.

More on that is in Do you work for Gumloop? (the answer from the session).

Checked on 2026-11-05 against Apify's documentation for its Gumloop integration. The page lists four data sources available natively in Gumloop: Instagram, Google Maps, TikTok and YouTube. LinkedIn isn't one of the four. The page also describes a general task runner for running Apify tasks you've saved in your own Apify account, and it doesn't name LinkedIn there either.

My lines above are from October 7, and that page is what it says today. Before you build around LinkedIn, open the connector list in your own account and look for it.

What didn't I say?

I didn't say anything about LinkedIn's terms of use on the recording, and I'm not going to guess at them now. Read them before you point an AI agent at it. I also said something about comments at that same moment, but the recording is unclear there, so I'm leaving it out.

What goes wrong

A private page. I said the tool won't read one (29:18).

A site that doesn't share a connection. I said LinkedIn doesn't readily share that information (28:34). I reach for a tool built for public pages.

What the recording doesn't show: Apify reading a LinkedIn page. I named the tool and its limit. I didn't run it on screen.

Where this comes from

This article grows from the session I taught live with Women Applying AI on October 7, 2026. The quoted passage is my own words, taken verbatim from the recording. The rest of my lines from the recording are restated with their timestamps. The steps, tables and checklists around them were drafted by my team's AI agents from those words and my published pages, and checked against the recording before publishing. Platform facts that have a public source carry the dated line above, and screens change.
