Step 1: What an AI agent is
An AI agent is a helper you set up one time and use again and again. You write it instructions once, in plain English. It reads what you give it and does the same job every time you ask, without you rebuilding it from scratch.
Today you build one: your Negotiation Prep Agent. Same AI agent for everyone in the room, run on whatever you brought.
Before you touch Gumloop
Step 2: Pick your lane, write your goal
Three short parts. Pen and paper is fine for the last one.
-
Step 2, part 1: Meet L.A.T.T.E.
- LLook at the details. Gather the facts.
- AAnticipate the challenges. Name the objections before they name you.
- TThink about your walk-away point. Three numbers: Target, Acceptable, Walk-away.
- TTalk it through. State your ask plainly, then stop talking.
- EEvaluate. Put the outcome in writing.
You do not have to announce your walk-away point. You just have to know it.
Done when:you can name the stage you are weakest at without looking back.
-
Step 2, part 2: Pick your lane
Three lanes today. Pick the one that matches what you brought.
Done when:exactly one lane is highlighted. It stays picked if you leave and come back on this device.
-
Step 2, part 3: Write your one-sentence goal
One sentence, in your own words: what you want out of this conversation. That sentence is what your AI agent builds toward.
Saved on this device only. Nothing here is sent anywhere.
Done when:you have one sentence you could say out loud to open the conversation.
The round check marks only track your reading on this device. Your actual AI agent lives in your Gumloop account and opens exactly where you left it.
Five Gumloop words you'll see next
Tap any of them for a plain-English line. Two more words, Skills and Sub-agents, exist in Gumloop and you are not building either today.
In Gumloop
Step 3: Create your Negotiation Prep Agent
Three parts. The file you downloaded above already holds the instructions. You are mostly uploading and turning things on.
-
Step 3, part 1: Create the AI agent
In Gumloop, open Agents and create a new one. Name it Negotiation Prep Agent.
You should see:your new AI agent's own page, with its name at the top and a chat box.
-
Step 3, part 2: Upload your instructions file
In the chat box, find the plus button in the bottom-left corner. Use it to upload negotiation-prep-agent.md, the file from the top of this page. Then send one message: "Use this file as your instructions."
You should see:the file attached, and when you ask "what do you do?", an answer that mentions L.A.T.T.E. and a negotiation brief.
-
Step 3, part 3: Turn on Self-Improving Instructions
Open your AI agent's settings, next to its instructions. Find Self-Improving Instructions and turn it on. This lets the AI agent sharpen its own instructions when you correct it in Step 6.
You should see:the toggle switched on. If it was already on, you're done.
Your document
Step 4: Give it something real to work with
Two parts. You only need one of them.
-
Step 4, part 1: Upload your document
Under Knowledge Sources, upload what you brought: renewal notes, a pricing sheet, an offer letter or job description, or your list. One document is enough.
You should see:your file listed under Knowledge Sources.
-
Step 4, part 2: No document? Use the sample
Nothing to upload? Download the renewal sample from this page and upload it the same way. It is fictional and built for exactly this.
You should see:sample-renewal.md listed under Knowledge Sources.
The one to get right
Step 5: Nothing sends
One part. Your AI agent drafts. You send.
-
Step 5: Confirm nothing can send on your behalf
Open your AI agent's Connectors. The list should be empty. No Gmail, no Outlook, no CRM. Your file already tells the AI agent it never sends anything; an empty Connectors list is what makes that true.
You should see:no email or CRM connector listed. If one is there, remove it for today.
Why this step exists
An AI agent with an email connector and no rule can send a draft you never read. Today it has no connectors, so the worst it can do is write. When you add Gmail or a CRM later, add the approval setting first, so every send asks you.
The real thing
Step 6: Run it on your real negotiation
Two parts. This is where you find out it works.
-
Step 6, part 1: Test run
In the chat, paste your one-sentence goal from Step 2 and tell the AI agent to use the document you uploaded in Step 4. It will show you what it found, then stop and check with you before going further. Tell it to continue.
You should see:a brief in five parts named Look, Anticipate, Think, Talk, Evaluate, with your Target, Acceptable, and Walk-away numbers and three lines you can say out loud.
-
Step 6, part 2: Correct it once
Read what it gave you. Tell it one thing that's off or missing, in one sentence. Watch it update.
You should see:the next reply reflects your correction instead of repeating the first answer.
After the room
Step 7: Take home
Two small things, then you're set.
Step 7, part 1: The L.A.T.T.E. prep sheet
The one-page version of the method, for the next negotiation you prep by hand. From Don't Leave Money on the Table.
Download the prep sheet, PDF, opens in a new tabStep 7, part 2: Your day-14 reminder
Your Gumloop trial runs 14 days from the day you signed up. Put day 14 on your calendar now, not as a mental note, so the decision to continue is yours, made on purpose.
If you decide to stay on, the code at the top of this page takes 20% off one month.
After the summit, from your own account
Jacqueline demos these from her screen; they are not part of today's build. When you are ready, add them one at a time: Exa for web research on the other side, Apollo for contact details, your CRM (Salesforce or HubSpot) for account history, and Gmail or Outlook for drafts. Add the approval setting before any of them, so nothing sends without you.
Practice documents
Sample documents
Both are fictional and say so inside. Use one in Step 4 if you arrived with nothing, or try the second one at home.
Renewal sample
The deal lane. A software renewal with an opt-out clause, a usage drop, a competitor in the mix, and a decision-maker with a budget deadline.

The price-or-pay lane and the next-role lane. A promotion and raise ask with real numbers, a market range, and the objection you already know is coming.

- AI agentA helper you set up one time and use again and again. Instructions once, in plain English, and it does the same job every time you ask.
- Agent InstructionsThe plain-English brief that tells your AI agent who it is and how to decide. Today that is the file you uploaded.
- Self-Improving InstructionsA setting that lets the AI agent rewrite its own instructions when you correct it, so the fix sticks.
- Knowledge SourcesThe documents your AI agent is allowed to read. Today: the one document you brought, or the sample.
- ConnectorsOther tools plugged into the AI agent, like Gmail or a CRM. Today you have none, so nothing can send.
- L.A.T.T.E.Look at the details. Anticipate the challenges. Think about your walk-away point. Talk it through. Evaluate. From Don't Leave Money on the Table.
- Target, Acceptable, Walk-awayThe number you actually want. Yes, without resentment. Below this, the answer is no.
- Skill, Sub-agentTwo more things Gumloop can do. Not part of today's build.
