# Sample comp conversation: Maya Renner's promotion ask

This is a fictional sample for practice. It is not a real deal or a real person.

## What this is

Notes a seller wrote for herself before asking for a promotion and a raise. Use it as your document if you brought nothing, or if your lane is your price or your pay.

## Where I am now

- Name: Maya Renner.
- Title: Senior Account Executive at Brightfold, a mid-size software company.
- Current pay: 118,000 dollars base, 60,000 dollars target variable. On-target earnings of 178,000 dollars.
- Time in role: two years and four months.

## What I am asking for

- Title: Enterprise Account Executive.
- Base: 135,000 dollars, with variable adjusted to the enterprise plan.
- Start: January 1, 2027, the start of the next fiscal year.

## Who decides

- Decision-maker: Chris Alvarado, Vice President of Sales. Approves titles and bands for the sales team.
- Also involved: Priya Shah, Head of People. Signs off on any move outside the current band.
- Timing: annual performance reviews close October 31. Promotion decisions are announced the first week of December.

## My documented results

- Finished the last fiscal year at 127 percent of quota.
- Closed the largest new deal on the team this year, 410,000 dollars, with a three-year term.
- Brought in three customer referrals that turned into closed deals, worth 260,000 dollars combined.
- Covered two enterprise accounts for four months while that seat was open, and both renewed.

## The market

- Enterprise Account Executive base pay at comparable companies in this region: 130,000 to 150,000 dollars, from two salary surveys and three posted job listings.
- Brightfold's own posted range for the open Enterprise AE role in June was 128,000 to 145,000 dollars.

## The objection I already know is coming

"Headcount and comp bands are frozen until Q1. I can't move you outside the senior band right now."
